Sorry for the delay between transmissions; I've never been good at blogging and it doesn't look like consistency is going to be my thing with this one either.
I had my first celebrity siting about a week and a half ago. Sylvester Stallone was at my school watching his daughter play basketball. Her team was playing at my school and I guess he had the afternoon to come out and watch along with the rest of the family. A couple of us went down to the court to check the situation out (read: have our picture taken with him), but by the time we got down there, the game had started and we didn't want to disturb him since he was there as a "citizen." He was socializing with parents and other people there before the game, so I wouldn't have felt bad about the request if we had been just a bit quicker on our feet. I'm okay with being able to say that, "I saw Mr. Stallone at my school;" it's not like it's a huge deal, but it's a neat story to tell everyone at home. Now, if only Brooke Burke would show up at the school more often (she has two kids attending here).
The kickball team went to a regional tournament this last weekend. We took 16 people (I think) to Anaheim to compete for two spots to go to nationals. My team got shafted in group play in that we had to play 3 straight games without a break before moving on to the single elimination tournament. We won our first game, tied the second against a team that won their division last season, and then we threw the 3rd game so we could actually rest before the tournament. Unfortunately, we were paired with a team from our division in the first tournament game. This also happened to be the team that no one likes because they're a bunch of whiney little girls that argue every call regardless of whether the call was right or wrong. Despite the 5-4 loss, I'm not disappointed because we played our best game since the start of the season AND we weren't douches like the other team.
4 straight hours of kickball really took it out of me; I've been sore since Saturday. Playing another game last night (a heartbreaker that we lost 5-2) certainly didn't help things, either; in fact, I think I may have strained my groin in the process. I did have a spectacular head first slide in to home plate on my first trip around the bases which would make me feel better about the soreness if it weren't for the fact that the ump called me out when I was clearly safe. I don't know what the deal is this season with bad calls/umping, but we just can't seem to catch a break. Hopefully we'll start getting some calls our way now that we're on the backside of the season.
