My sister came in to town for the Thanksgiving weekend. I picked her up from the airport on Thanksgiving Day and brought her back to the pad. She never said it, but I think she was very overwhelmed by the whole LA/California experience. Megan (more than I) worked on dinner all day, so it was very close to being done when we finally got back to the apartment. Jeremy turned up shortly after we arrived and we would have been ready to eat except for one small problem:
No one knew how to carve the turkey.
I had the tools: a knife and a fork, but no knowledge about how to actually cut the shit out of our beloved bird. I wound up calling my dad, who laughed at me, but once he got over his amusement he guided me through the process of lopping off the legs and hacking the turkey in to bits. I think it turned out pretty good - I got most of the meat off in large slices, thus ensuring that nothing was wasted. At any rate, our pre-cooked turkey that was mailed to us by Megan's parents was very delicious, as was the food Megan actually cooked.
After dinner Jeremy and I played some Guitar Hero, after which he vowed to purchase a PS2 just for that one game (much like I did). When Megan and Deidre were tired of watching us play Guitar Hero, we packed up and went looking for a bar. After some serious searching, The Sportsman's Lodge, our Monday night watering hole, wound up being our bar of choice. We had a couple of rounds before the bar unexpectedly had last call before 10 p.m. Completely aghast, we went in to a panic because if this bar was closing so early, it didn’t bode well for the rest of our drinking experience. Fortunately, we found another bar (its name escapes me at the moment), but they promised to be open until 2 a.m. like a good bar should. We tried to get one of our other friends to come out with us, but Richard would have none of it. Jeremy, Deidre, Megan, and I spent the rest of the night drinking away, giving thanks to the fact that we could drink the night away in a bar on a federal holiday.
