Hollywood Bound

Sunday!

Jeremy came down from the desert again so the four of us could venture in to Hollywood with the hopes that Deidre would see some celebrities. We found out that the Christmas parade was that very same day, a bit unnerving in light of the fact that LA traffic is horrendous on a normal day, meaning that it would be on the level of ludicrousness in terms of how bad it would be. Nevertheless, we persevered and found a parking spot that would relieve us of most of our traffic burdens we would have to face later in the day.

Deidre really enjoyed seeing Hollywood. The stars in the sidewalks are always fun to see, especially when you find one for someone famous that you admire/hate/despise/whatever. Megan’s big one was Johnny Cash, while I was thrilled to find Queen and Mr. Rogers. Deidre refused to have her picture taken with the concrete stars; I suspect because she wanted to see a real life star and couldn’t be distracted from the hunt by looking down at the ground. We did the usual touristy stuff: seeing the Chinese theatre and having pictures taken with the people that dress up like characters from movies/real life people. Deidre was delighted to have her picture taken with Princess Fiona of Shrek, something I felt really odd about since the young lady looked exactly like the cartoon character. I don’t want to diss the poor girl, but it must be hard going through life looking like an ogre. She must make good money, though, since she works for tips and I’m pretty sure told Deidre that she’d kill her if she didn’t tip for the picture.

Deidre finally had her brush with fame later in the afternoon. Her chances of seeing someone famous were multiplied because of the parade, but we didn’t figure we would see an entire family, a pride if you will, of them. All four members of the Hogan family, yes, that Hogan family, was hanging out at a rehearsal for the parade. As it turned out, Brooke was doing a musical number in the middle of the parade and ABC (or whoever it was) needed to do rehearsals to make sure all the cameras where in the right spots. There was a huge crowd pressed up against the barricades, but Deidre and Megan managed to get close enough for a few photos of opportunity. Deidre was just happy that she got to see Nick Hogan because apparently, “He’s sooooo hot.”

We also found out that Starbucks is the only place on Hollywood Blvd. that has a bathroom. In an unbelievable act of bizarro-land, I actually got my order of coffee that contained 3 separate drinks before she even got to the door of the restroom. Yes, it was weird.

Not much happened during the rest of the day. We missed the parade and most of the traffic because we left Hollywood fairly early in the afternoon. Megan and I treated Jeremy and Deidre to Guido’s, our favorite pizza place in the LA area. Jeremy took off early in the evening because he had to return to the desert so he could be at work at 4:30 in the morning (or something like that). After dinner, Deidre played on the computer while we watched Nacho Libre.

Our fun-filled weekend came to a close on Monday when I delivered Deidre to the Burbank Airport. I’m pretty sure she had a good time since she wants to come back. Rest assured, I know it’s not to see me, rather, it will be to see Los Angeles again. I’m okay with that, just as long as she gives me a few minutes when she does return.
