2009 Resolutions

We're 5 days in to 2009 and I don't really have anything new to report. The world didn't explode, the economy didn't (completely) crash, Mr. Bush is still the president (not for long!)... Things appear to be as they should. I'd say that's a good start to the year.

I am trying something new this time around. I normally don't do new years resolutions mainly because I believe that if you want to change something about yourself, you can do it at any time. Why wait for the new year to try and lose weight or stop watching as much television? I've never really understood the point of new years resolutions, but after the prompting of my wife, I wrote a few down that I think are manageable, yet challenging enough to give me something to do this year.

1. Score 15 goals in one hockey season.
--- I think I scored 10 last season, although I got so frustrated with my lack of scoring in the second half of the season that I lost track of the actual number. I started out hot, 5 goals in two games but tapered off in the second half. I'd like to be more consistent and put a few more in the net.

2. Go to the gym at least 4 times a week.

3. Run at least 20 miles every week.

4. Run a half marathon.
-- My wife and I trained for the LA marathon last year but didn't get to race because she broke her foot a couple of months before the event. After getting up to 14 miles in training, we both realized that we don't like running for 3 hours straight, so we're looking at doing a half instead.

5. Score a 158 or higher on the LSAT.
--- I'm taking the test on February 7th. I have a plan that includes prep books and practice tests. I hope it's enough.

6. Get accepted to law school.
--- This isn't a very good resolution since half of it is out of my control.

7. Finish my MCSA certification before July 31, 2009.
--- I'm one exam away from finishing and I have put it off long enough.

8. Get to work on time rather than 10-15 minutes late every day.

9. Go to the dentist twice this year, January and July.

10. Write in my journal at least twice a week.
--- Which I'm obviously trying to do starting now. I'm not trying to focus on improving my writing, just the quantity since I don't believe I do a good enough job documenting my life/thoughts.

So there you have it, my 10 goals for the year. Do you have any resolutions or goals that you would like to share with the world?

My goal for 2009 is to nail Joe in the eye with a Nerf dart.

Seriously though, that is a good list. In terms of running, I need to work on just be able to do a 5k, that is my first running goal. I have a dentist appointment this Friday. :(
